There's very little that Gwyneth hasn't tried in the wellness sphere. From vaginal steaming, to bone broth diets, where Gwyneth goes, many follow.

And this week in honour of 'Wellness Wednesday', the swimming costume-clad actress proudly stood in out in the rain for 'spiritual cleanse', documenting the moment for her 8.6 million Instagram followers. What is a spiritual cleanse? As Coveteur puts it: 'It's a process of really shedding and letting go of who you are, of who you learned to be - or rather, who the world taught you to be, culture, social conditioning, whatever that may be - and learning to let go of all of these ideas.'

Gwyneth, 51, fully embraced a self-care day, reaping the benefits of the sauna before taking herself out in the downpour. 'Letting this rain wash away the people, places, things that are no longer right for me. Time for a cleanse as I enter a 9 year (completion),' she wrote on her story.

In astrological terms, 9 year is the end of an era - 'going back' to claim your future. The belief is that if you do not allow yourself to succumb to 'one door closes, another one opens', then you won't be able to recognise new possibilities.

'[9 year] is a period to reflect on the achievements and lessons of the past nine years. During this time, we may find ourselves tying up loose ends, finishing projects, and letting go of anything that no longer serves our growth,' according to Astrology Realm.

Will the spiritual cleanse in the rain trend catch on? We're unsure if it's got total appeal factor, but watch this space.

This time last year, Gwyneth - who is mum to Apple, 20, and 18-year-old Moses with ex-husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin - tapped into her spirituality by announcing a social media hiatus to work on being more present.

'Taking this full moon energy with me as I go into a social media break. Going to work on being present. Happy summer,' she wrote to her followers.

And in March, Gwyneth opened up about how meditating has become a tradition with her husband Brad Falchuk. 'I feel us go into this deeply personal, but intimate space. The space around both of us has the same tenor, but it’s very internal. I’m not sure if it strengthens our relationship, but it feels like it does,' she said.
