Kanye West performed Saturday’s headlining set at Glastonbury, announcing to the crowd as he whipped them into frenzy after frenzy: ‘You are now watching the greatest living rock star on the planet.’
But that was of no concern to whatever wanker spent his time, money and efforts not only commissioning some hapless printers to make this flag, but carrying it in the long journey to Glastonbury, trundling through to the campsite with it in tow and then bringing it all the way to Kanye’s set where he could wave it about.
If you can’t see what this guy (and yeah, we'll hedge our bets and say it's a guy) has done; he's juxtaposed a screengrab of Kim Kardashian and Ray J’s sex tape with a line from Kanye West’s Gold Digger: ‘Get Down girl, Go ‘head get down’
Just a word about that sex tape; it didn’t actually make Kim Kardashian famous, it was rising above the sex tape that made her famous. If revenge porn was a viable route to superstardom, then there are whole websites of women (and it is mostly women) who aren’t just victims of a sex crime but imminent household names.
Oh, and did you know that when Oprah told Kim that some people think she leaked the sex tape herself, she replied that she was near-grateful her father, Robert Kardashian, wasn’t alive to know about it: ‘I don’t know what I would have done, I truly don’t know what I would have said.’
The maker of the flag might have the tiniest legitimate argument in the fact that Kanye seems to promote a culture of slut-shaming women through his lyrics (eg he got the crowd to repeat with him his line from New Slaves, where he goes ‘I’d rather be a dick’ and they chant ‘than a swallower’) so now his wife’s fair game.
But somehow we doubt that finding the Ray J and Kim's sex tape, screengrabbing a still of it and getting it printed on a massive flag to wave at a gig where Kim, pregnant with her second child, would be present, was done to achieve anything but shame Kim. And, by extension, Kanye, who’s faced so much backlash for being, well, the biggest rock star in the world right now. What better way to harm a man than to make his wife out to be a slag? And what better way to show the world you're a prick because you have a money-burning desire to bring a successful woman down?
We don’t quite understand how someone would want to dedicate so much of their time shaming a woman for sex she had with someone she once cared about; if their quest was the world to find out what a funny lad they are, then* they’re* the real fame-whore here.
