Grimes, the Canadian singer, and Elon Musk, the Tesla multi-billionaire, have apparently called it quits. Yep, showbusiness' most outlandish couple are no longer together - and Musk has confirmed the news himself to Page Six, saying they are 'semi-separated'. But what does that even mean - is anyone else getting Gwyneth Paltrow/Chris Martin 'conscious uncoupling' flashbacks here?
'We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms,' he told the publication, before going on to blame their differing schedules for the (sort of) split. 'It’s mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas and her work is primarily in LA. She’s staying with me now and Baby X is in the adjacent room.'
Baby X - of course - refers to their one-year-old son, who was given the strangest celebrity baby name of all time when they decided to casually call him X Æ A-Xii. If you're wondering how it's pronounced, like we were for ages, Musk later told Joe Rogan: 'I mean it's just X, the letter X. And then the Æ is, like, pronounced 'ash'... yeah... and then A-12 is my contribution [apparently Grimes came up with most of the name].' And if you're wondering what the moniker means... 'X’ refers to 'the unknown variable', Grimes tweeted after the birth. ‘Æ’ is 'my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)'. Finally, ‘A-12’ is a nod to the 'precursor to SR-17 (our favourite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent'. And the ‘A’ in the ‘A-12’ is short for Archangel, which she says is her favourite song.
The couple have been together since May 2018, with X being born last May. The billionaire has five sons with author Justine Wilson, one of his ex-wives, and he has also been married (twice) to Westworld actress Talulah Riley. He also briefly dated Amber Heard following her split from Johnny Depp.
Well, as the pair are only 'semi-separated' according to Elon, we wouldn't be surprised at a reunion soon... Watch this space.
