It’s been a pretty rubbish year for TV, with no Love Island, The Apprentice or RuPaul’s Drag Race UK to look forward to, But things are definitely about to pick up with the return of The Great British Bake Off.
After it was confirmed that the much-loved Channel 4 show is returning next week, the line-up of contestants has been revealed and we couldn’t be more excited.
From an armed guard to a pantomime producer and an accountant to a bronze resin sculptor (whatever that is), bosses behind the show have scoured the country to find Britain’s best amateur bakers and put together an eclectic line-up of contestants.
But which one will be crowned 2020’s Star Baker?

Fans weren’t sure if we would get a new series of GBBO this year after filming was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic but cast and crew all isolated together for six weeks to ensure that the show could go ahead.
Kieran Smith, creative director at Love Productions, told Deadline, 'So many people rely on Bake Off for work that we knew we had to work out a plan.
'It was a massive operation, we even [built] 12 practice kitchens for the bakers to use on their days off' he continued, while managing director Letty Kavanagh added, 'It felt like the safest place in Britain.'
While judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith and presenter Noel Fielding are all returning, Little Britain’s Matt Lucas will enter the tent for the first time after replacing Sandi Toksvig, who quit the show after three years in January.
Speaking about joining Bake Off, Matt said, 'I’m chuffed to bits to be joining the most delicious show on television. I can’t wait to break bread with Noel, Prue and Paul and meet the brilliant bakers. And bearing in mind my love of cake, I’ve already ordered some much larger trousers in anticipation. See you in the tent!'
Noel then added, 'I love Matt. I love his warmth and his comedy and his big joyful smile.'
The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 on Tuesday 22 September.
