Yas! Here’s some good news for a Wednesday morning, a prequel to the iconic 1978 film Grease is in the works. The film - first reported by The Hollywood Reporter- is rumoured to be called Summer Loving. But, this morning, Radio 1 Newsbeatconfirmed that scripts are being written by John August, who is also the brains behind the upcoming Aladdin remake and Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory remake.
So, tell me more, tell me more… The project is expected to explain how Sandy Olsson (innocent) and Danny Zuko (not so) met, which is the story told in the famous song Summer Nights. So it might go a bit like, ‘Took her bowling in the arcade, we went strolling drank lemonade, we made out under the dock, we stayed out till 10 o'clock.’
In 2016, Grease got the 'live for TV' treatment on Fox in a version starring Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens, which won five Emmys. And even now, Grease still stands as one of the top five highest grossing movie musicals of all time.
Last year, John Travolta voiced his approval ofthe popular fan theory that the entire movie was a vision dreamt up by a dying Sandy.(You know that playful beach frolic memory that kicks off the song? Some believe that Danny didn’t save her life and she actually drowned.)'I love it; imaginations are awesome,' he told USA Today. 'These things are bound to happen to something timeless like this. It's so fun.'
As soon as we have more updates, we'll let you know!
