Gossip Girl Fans Furious As Ed Westwick Flogs Face Masks Instead Of Announcing Reunion

OK, so we all thought a Gossip Girl{=nofollow}__ reunion could be on the cards when Ed Westwick shared a simple image of the iconic ‘XOXO’ sign off on social media yesterday - leading many fans to think the original cast are up to something, eight years after the last series aired…

‘Got a little something for you,’ the Chuck Bass actor wrote. ‘Tomorrow 1pm.. Hint....xoxo’

Understandably, the internet quickly got its hopes up. 'Hey Upper East siders looks like Chuck Bass has got a little trick up his sleeve to spice up this quarantine season, but what could it be? xoxo Gossip Girl,’ one fan wrote on Twitter.

However, turns out it wasn't that at all. After all that anticipation, the actor has only updated his merch store to sell 'XOXO' face masks. And people are obviously not happy. 'Ed Westwick really got us all hyped over a reunion and instead released face masks on his shop? Lol if that isn’t a Chuck move what is,' one wrote. Another added, 'You’re telling me Ed Westwick teased something GG related and got me all excited only for him to come out with xoxo coronavirus masks? MASKS? I see now why Blair chose Louis.'

And also at $18.14 - nearly £14.50 - they're not exactly cheap, either.

Ed's merch drop comes after it was revealed the Gossip Girl reboot has been postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The original series - based on Cecily von Ziegesar’s highly popular young adult novel - ran on The CW for six seasons from 2007 to 2012, starring Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgely, Ed Westwick and Chace Crawford. However, the cast{ =nofollow}of the new teen drama includes Emily Alyn Lind, Whitney Peak and Eli Brown.
