It's official. Phoebe Waller-Bridge may be adding another trophy to the Fleabag cabinet. And Jennifer Lopez, singer and rom-com queen, might soon be upgraded to Oscar winner. That's if today's Golden Globe announcement are anything to go by.
Awards season is already upon us, but we'll have to wait until 2020 to see which stars of the big screen will be taking the prizes at the major ceremonies - the Oscars, Golden Globes, BAFTAs and Screen Actors Guild Awards. But the Golden Globes have finally kicked things off, announcing the nominations ahead of its ceremony in LA on January 5th. The shortlists are seen in the industry as the best clues yet of who may take the Oscar. The announcement was made by actors Tim Allen, Dakota Fanning and Susan Kelechi Watson. And there's a bonus: The Golden Globes also acknowledge television, meaning Fleabag gets some well-deserved attention.
In the race for accolades, there are some dead certs. Jennifer Lopez is hotly tipped for Best Supporting Actress nominations for her role in Hustlers. Renee Zellweger is a shoo-in for Best Actress prizes thanks to her role in Judy but Charlize Theron has also received acclaim for Bombshell. Little Women - directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Saoirse Ronan - is also set for success although disappointingly there's no best director nomination for Gerwig, or any woman for that matter. It's The Irishman and Marriage Story that dominate the film nominations.
Here's who's in the running for Globes.
