When Glee first aired on television, it was an undeniable sensation. The first series inspired a world tour, a resurgence of the music of Journey, and made stars of its cast. In fact, as the programme continued to churn out poppy covers of classic songs, the actors on the show even broke records. The act with the most hits to appear on the Billboard 100? It's not The Beatles, Abba or Michael Jackson. It's the cast of Glee. Glee lasted for six seasons, and while the general consensus accepts that it dropped in quality, it is nevertheless a gem in Noughties light entertainment. But in recent weeks, with coronavirus causing lockdown{ =nofollow}, avid fans have realised that the pandemic has rendered the show's final episode inaccurate.

For those who didn't see it, or have forgotten all about it (although Glee is now available on Netflix) the show's final episode contained a fast forward to the future. Rachel Berry - the aggressively perky, ambitious and talented young singer played by Lea Michele - is now a successful Broadway actress, and is nominated for a prestigious Tony Award. Her competition? Dame Maggie Smith, Willow Smith and Anne Hathaway. She attends the ceremony with her husband, and is shocked when her name is called as the winner.

The problem? The scene takes place in 2020. And yet, this year'sTony Awards were cancelled due to the pandemic. Last night, June 7th, was supposed to see the event take place but it has been and gone, meaning that the ceremony depicted doesn't happen.

Several users of online forum Reddit have been laughing at the accidental, and completely unpredictable inaccuracy, and it has since spread to Twitter.

Yes, we know it's not real. Glee was not a documentary about high school children singing twee Madonna covers. But it's a fun new fact in the programme's chequered history, a much needed chuckle when we need as many of those as possible.

Maybe 2021 is Rachel's year instead?
