Hands up who knew Girls star Allison Williams was dating a guy called Ricky Van Veen? Well, she was. Don't be sad for her, though. She's not been dumped or anything (though that could actually be quite lol. How much funnier is her character, Marnie,* after* her break-ups with Charlie? Like when she tries to woo him back by singing a white-girl version of Kanye West's Stronger to a bunch of strangers).

The reason she's no longer dating Ricky Van Veen is because she's engaged to him! Sure, they might go on the odd date every now and then, but this is much more serious than that. And it's legit; the 25-year-old's representative confirmed the news to People overnight. Ricky Van Veen is a co-founder of CollegeHumor, a website that hosts Jake And Amir, a web series that Allison used to guest star on before she got her big break in* Girls*.

What else do we know about Ricky? Well, apart from that great name, he is a friend of John Mayer's (way to rub it in, Ricky) and he's got the seal of approval from Allison's dad, news anchor Brian Williams. When talk show legend Larry King asked Allison what her dad thought of Ricky, she smiled and said, 'He likes him a lot.'

We'd say a hearty congratulations to Allison, but we've a slight fear this might spell the end of her career. 'My goal is to create a career I can walk away from and become a mom,' she told Glamour US's March issue. 'I'd love to be a mom – and not have to bring my kids into my trailer…Or a balance. But you've [got to] call it on the fly to a certain extent.'

Yes, do that, Allison. Call it on the fly, play it by ear, cross that bridge when you come to it, and a million other aphorisms that mean you won't leave us in a world of no cringey Marnie moments just yet.
