Gigi Hadid’s model mum Yolanda Foster has launched a Twitter rant against former model Rebecca Romijin after she hit out at social media stars for not being ‘true supermodels’.

Foster took to the social media site to jump to the defence of daughter Gigi and best friend Kendall Jenner.

Romijin was asked what she thought about celebrities like Gigi and Kendall ruling the runway.

"No one has proven yet that numbers of followers translates to revenue,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

"So it is frustrating. I know a lot of people – legitimate fashion people – can't stand it. Hate it that these, you know, social media stars are now the supermodels in fashion.

"They are not true supermodels. And the thing is, I have always looked to Vogue magazine to lead the way, not be a follower.... So I have been disappointed that fashion magazines have been supporting this trend of social media stars to set our style standards.”

But Foster was having none of it.

“Kind, hard working and they accomplished more at half your age in the fashion industry @Kendalljenner @gigihadid,” wrote Yolanda.

“It’s THEIR hard work and daily commitment to their profession that got them where they R today #NoParentsInvolved.”

However, Romijin insisted her quotes were misconstrued, tweeting:

What do you think? Were Rebecca’s quotes taken out of context or was that the fastest backtrack ever?

Either way, it seems that Gigi’s mum has got her back.
