As we’ve already pointed out, Taylor Swift has got a lot of friends. She’s got more friends than this entire office put together. She’s got more friends than a kitten in a hormone factory. She’s basically got all the friends. But Gandalf, aka the actor Sir Ian McKellen, is not, it seems, one of them.
In an interview with Gay Star News, the Lord of the Rings big wizard, X-Men star and Knight of the Realm told how he ended up getting kicked out of the flat he was staying in after Taylor Swift decided she wanted to live there.
‘When I was living in Peter Jackson’s apartment in New York, Taylor Swift bought it while I was there and I was thrown out before I wanted to leave!’ McKellen said, shortly after marching as a grand marshal at Manchester Gay Pride.
‘That hardly puts me in Taylor Swift’s team, does it? She bought it, she had every right to – I was just lodging there for free! She did ask me to appear with Patrick Stewart at her show in LA, but I had something else to do that night.’
Ouch. I mean, sure, we’ve all used the ‘Sorry I can’t appear on stage with you, Taylor – I’ve got other plans,’ excuse haven’t we. Haven’t we? But this does seem a little pointed.
Still, hopefully with his upcoming appearance as Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast, it’s unlikely the actor will find himself in housing Mordor any time soon.
