After what feels like waiting for our entire lives, the Friends reunion is nearly upon us. For a while, we're not going to lie, we thought it was all too good to be to true - but now the trailer has finally been released it feels properly real. And along with (a slightly older looking) Joey, Rachel, Chandler, Ross and Monica - people have noticed there's another famous face featuring in the episode... US chat show host James Corden. He's come a long way from starring in Gavin and Stacey, that's for sure.

There have been some catty tweets, though, asking why he's decided to 'ruin' the reunion. One person even said, 'Don’t get me wrong I’ve been wanting a Friends reunion since 2004 but if someone told me James Corden would be in it I’d have told them not to bother.'

We can laugh, but it all seems a tiny bit harsh as we haven't seen it, and he's one of the most famous presenters in the world. So he's probably qualified to do the job of emcee. And whether you love or hate him, American audiences quite clearly think he's hilarious.

But, for those wondering why he's actually on the show - it could be seen as quite a random choice, even though there are a load of random celebrity cameos, including checks notes Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Malala Yousafzai and David Beckham - there is actually a reason for James being involved in the show, rather than a chat show rival or Friends super fan. And it's to do with the company producing the show.

James is a partner of production company Fulwell 73, and Ben Winston is directing and executive producing the reunion through Fulwell. So his involvement comes down to his professional links. The show is also being executive produced by the show's co-creators, Kevin S. Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane, and the show's main cast, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer.

So, there have you have your answer - that probably is a big reason why James is starring in the reunion: he's basically helped to make it happen it all. So, begrudgingly, we're grateful.
