In the last several years, Britney Spears has been on something of a rollercoaster ride when it comes to who is making the decisions around her finances, her parenting and her very life. The Free Britney movement, which emerged around the ongoing legal discussions relating to Britney’s conservatorship, has built and built, but there was little concrete information around the whole thing. Now, though, the curtain has been pulled back thanks to the arrival of an in-depth new documentary about the whole debacle.

Called Framing Britney Spears, the documentary streamed on Hulu and US channel FX, arriving on February 5th. But British fans were left wanting. Until now, that is.

How can I watch Framing Britney Spears?

Made by Red Arrow Studios, the company states that the documentary contains interviews with those close to Britney, with insights from lawyers close to the case who, the release states, ‘now reassess her career as she battles her father in court over who should control her life.’ The conservatorship, Red Arrow continues, has ‘turned into a Kafkaesque court battle that has reawakened her fandom and raised pressing questions about mental health and an individuals' rights.’

The film ‘offers a new assessment of the movement rallying against her court-mandated conservatorship, capturing the unsavoury dimensions of the American pop-star machine.’ It promises to be a comprehensive and fascinating exploration of how the industry – and family – treated a young woman thrust into the spotlight at a young age without adequate support, and how she continues to be let down.

Britney's father, Jamie, has been the conservator of his daughter’s estate for 12 years. Britney lost a bid to have this control removed last November.
