Forget That Blasphemous Video. Katy Perry’s Just Dumped John Mayer

If it's true, we're just looking forward to his tell-all interview...

We wouldn’t normally write you two stories about Katy Perry a day, but today's a big day for her. As well as upsetting 57,000 people with her Dark Horse video (seriously, that many people and counting want it removed from YouTube as it is believed to be ‘blasphemous’), she’s gone and upset John Mayer by dumping him.

We’re not hugely shocked, because, well, John Mayer hasn’t got that much of a reputation for long-lasting relationships, and some might consider him Katy Perry’s post-Russell Brand rebound. But there were some strong signs the pair were still together – Katy was spotted with a giant diamond sparkler on her engagement ring finger last week at the Elle Style Awards, and she pulled away from what could’ve been a headline-storming snogwith Miley Cyrus at her Los Angeles gig.

So what gives? Well, so far, E! News has reported very little, just that a source told them that Katy dumped John over the past few days. What comes next? An official announcement of the split, a bit of unfollowing on Twitter, or maybe even Katy and John – who must be in love if they collaborated on Who You Love, right? – denying the break-up? Or maybe Katy’s going to hook up with One Direction's Niall Horan. Way back on Valentine’s Day, some corners of the internetreported Paddy Power's 12-1 odds that Katy Perry would hook up with the One Direction member.

Basically, a lot could happen next, and some of it might actually be quite interesting. John* is* known for spilling the beans on his relationships, after all. In 2010, he gave two interviews where he spoke about his exes. The first, for Playboy, was where he described ex-girlfriend Jessica Simpson as ‘sexual napalm’ in bed. The second, to Rolling Stone, was a lot sweeter, and he said his split from Jennifer Aniston was very hard to do: ‘I've never really gotten over it. It was one of the worst times of my life.’

Katy better hope that whatever John says surpasses in controversy the allegations that her music video for Dark Horse is islamophobic. It wouldn’t be that out of the ordinary. He did, after all tell Playboy that time: ‘My dick is sort of like a white supremacist.’
