With only thirty people able to attend today's funeral of the late Prince Philip, many of his loved ones were unable to pay their respects to The Duke in person. That includes Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, who could not be in Windsor due to medical advice prohibiting her traveling at this late stage in her pregnancy. Naturally, though, she has ensured to send her best wishes.
Reports are stating that Meghan sent a handwritten note along with a wreath from both her and Harry. It is not surprising that Meghan took the personal touch: she is a talented calligrapher, having picked up the talent in handwriting classes during her Catholic School education.
The wreath, it is known, was made by hand by Willow Crossley, who previously designed the floral arrangements for both Harry and Meghan's wedding, as well as the christening of their son, Archie. The wreath included flowers that acknowledge Prince Philip's Greek links, his status as a Royal Marine, and his June birth month. Specifically, Acanthus molli is the national flower of Greece, Eryngium was chosen to represent the Royal Marines, with roses symbolic of June. In addition, the wreath was also compiled of campanula - traditionally meant to represent gratitude and love - rosemary - which symbolises remembrance - and lavender, for devotion. It is no surprise that Meghan would think of the little touches: her friends speak of her noticing the small things.
Meghan will be watching the funeral from her California home. 'We know that she’s supporting Harry in this very difficult week for him, but she’ll also be sad because this is also the loss of a family member for her," says Omid Scobie, co-author of Finding Freedom. 'She grew very close to the queen and Prince Philip over the recent years. It was probably her strongest relationship within the family and those relations then get smaller this week. It’ll be a sad day for her.'
