If you're going to put your money on one young, British actress going big in 2020, you would be wise to back Florence Pugh. The star of Little Women has been impressing cinema-goers and industry types for years now, but her rise is set to continue. Here's everything you need to know.
How old is she?
Florence was born in Oxford on 3 January, 1996, making her 24. For those interested in horoscopes, that makes her a Capricorn.
Where is she from?
Florence may have been born in Oxford, but she spent much of her childhood in Andalusia, Spain, where she went to school in Sotogrande. But she later returned to Oxfordshire. Her brother, Toby Sebastian, is an actor and singer who appeared in Game Of Thrones, and her sister - Arabella Gibbins - is also an actress.
What else has she been in?
Florence starred in The Falling with Game Of Thrones actress Maisie Williams in 2014, a mystery film about a boarding school. After that, she flew to America to film a pilot for Studio City, co-starring Heather Graham and Will & Grace's Eric McCormack. 'It was mega news', she recalls. 'I was going to be doing a TV series with Hollywood stars, probably for a good half of my life.' Unfortunately, though, the show was not picked up for further episodes.
There was a silver lining: her next project - 2016's Lady Macbeth - won her huge acclaim, and several awards, including the British Independent Film Award, and she was nominated for BAFTA's Rising Star Award in 2018. Next, she took the lead in BBC drama The Little Drummer Girl, opposite Alexander Skarsgård, then played an amateur wrestler in Fighting With My Family, and Midsommar, a disturbing horror film that has already become known as a classic.
In 2019, she played Amy March in Greta Gerwig's adaptation of Little Women, opposite Saoirse Ronan and Meryl Streep.
What is next for her?
Florence will next be seen with Scarlett Johansson in Black Widow, a Marvel film focusing on the origins of the superhero last seen in the Avengers franchise. Florence plays Yelena Boleva, younger sister of Scarlett's character Natasha. Rachel Weisz and David Harbour also star.
Who is she dating?
Florence has been linked with Zach Braff, star of Garden State and Scrubs. They were seen holding hands in April of 2019. In December of 2019, she appeared to address their 21-year age gap. During a visit to LA, she wrote on Instagram: 'First pit-stop, Matzo Ball soup.'
Zac responded with a princess emoji. One naysayer, appearing to criticise Zach, commented: 'You’re 44 years old.' Florence commented back: 'And yet he got it.'
Does she have Instagram?
While Florence’s notable projects up until now have been erring on the dark and twisted, her social media personality is the equivalent of a good rom-com. Her Insta-bio is a big giveaway to her humble character: ‘Actor/Singer Songwriter with a weirdly low voice and a confusing laugh. Sometimes people think I sound like a man. I’m cool with that. 1996.’ Expect lengthy discussions over her dream wedding with Leonardo DiCaprio, candy coloured 'dos and selfies salivating over cupcakes (and XL bags of Yorkshire Tea). So, dream BFF as well.
