Broadcaster and journalist Fiona Bruce has been welcomed by open arms as the new presenter of Question Time. Bruce made her first appearance as the replacement for David Dimbleby last night, and quickly became a hit with viewers.

Ahead of her debut on the show - which saw Brexit topics dominate more than half the programme - Bruce told The Telegraph: "There is nothing like [Question Time] on TV. I have not felt this nervous in a long time, but I know that if I am nervous, that isn't helpful. If people think you are nervous that isn't a comfortable watch."

The first show guests included MPs James Cleverly, Emily Thornberry, Jo Swinson, Melanie Phillips, and The Mash Report host Nish Kumar - a group that Bruce managed eloquently.

And while may have been nervous about taking up her new TV role, celebrities and viewers alike seem to be extremely pleased with her performance - so much so that they took to Twitter to share their enthusiasm of Bruce's no-nonsense approach:

Jonathon Ross is clearly a big fan.

Bruce's no non-sense approach went down a treat with viewers of the show.

Some people were just pleased to see Bruce call out politicians. Meanwhile, some politicians voiced their support, like former energy secretary Ed Davey, who described Bruce as a "breath of fresh air".

We're so here for this quote about Bruce's presenting and on being a woman.

We did chuckle when we spotted this tweet referring to Bruce's fiery questioning tactics aimed at James Cleverly and Emily Thornberry. At one point, when Cleverly took too long answering a response, Fiona remarked: "James, occasionally you do have to stop talking!"

Viewers were particularly impressed with her ability to open a "dialogue of trust and [for] respecting the truth". Another Twitter user even remarked that this was the "Best Question Time in years." A pretty bold statement indeed.

As the first permanent female host in the show’s 40-year history, Bruce is no doubt set to make waves, and quite frankly, we're here for it.
