In today’s news about weird fitness trends and pointless things that you don’t need, advertised by celebrities you wouldn’t expect, it has been revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo is the face of a bizarre new Japanese facial workout device.
On Shlab Life and Beauty’s websiteRonaldo says, ‘In my everyday training sessions, there is one area of my body that I hadn’t been exercising: my facial muscles. That is, until I discovered PAO.’
The highest paid footballer in the world appears in the bizarre advert for the PAO facial fitness device, which has now been viewed over a million times on YouTube.
What we can deduce from watching the video is that the device looks a bit like a cross between one of Harry Potter’s snitches and a sex toy. Designed to target those notoriously tough-to-tone facial muscles, it seems to work by biting down on the ball in the middle and nodding your head up and down rigorously so that the device’s wings flap around your head like a giant fly. All of this, according to the video, is to be done while smiling cheerfully as though this is the most normal thing in the world.
Ronaldo himself doesn’t actually put the device in his mouth, unlike the others in the ad. Instead he looks at it in wonder and wiggles it around with his hand a bit (not awkward at all). He then proceeds to do a few kick-ups with a football, which doesn’t really seem to have anything to do with toning your cheeks but hey, that’s what he’s famous for so why not.
Despite the fact that he doesn’t actually seem to use the device he’s endorsing, Ronaldo insists that this is ‘a fun way for building up your facial muscles and shaping up your smile’.
So what did we learn here? Well, either we know exactly what Ronaldo’s up to when he’s not on the pitch or we know that he’s signing up for any endorsements that are even remotely fitness related.
Oh… and… apparently, there’s a whole new area of our bodies we should be exercising that we hadn’t even considered.
According to the Shlab Life and Beauty, ‘Turning up the corners of the mouth results in a refreshing and youthful smile. To better achieve this, the greater zygomatic muscle and orbiculars oris muscle should be regularly exercised.’ It’s actually the ‘orbicularis oris’ and the ‘zygomaticus’ guys, just FYI.
Didn’t realise facial fitness was a thing? It is now. Chances are your spin class will soon be replaced with a PAO class. Yes. This is definitely going to catch on.
PAOs for everyone.
