Just days after she was Oscar-nominated for her role in Manchester By The Sea, Michelle Williams’ new film, Certain Women, hits cinemas this Friday.

An understated, yet emotionally powerful film, Certain Women is based on a series of short stories from Maile Meloy’s collection, Both Ways Is The Only Way I Want It – and to whet your appetite, Grazia has an exclusive clip starring the former Dawson’s Creek actress.

The three intersecting stories see women trying to define their independence and make themselves heard in Livingston, Montana – a small town nestled into the wide-open plans of America’s Northwest.

Michelle plays a determined and steely wife and mother, Gina, trying to build her dream home, literally from the ground – but finds the men in her life (including husband Ryan, played here by James LeGros) repeatedly blocking her way.

Meanwhile, Laura Dern plays a strong-willed lawyer, who has to content with everyday office sexism – and a hostage situation. Hardworking Kristen Stewart is a young law student who forms an ambiguous and heart-wrenching bond with a lonely female ranch hand.

The film, directed by Kelly Reichardt, has received critical plaudits across the board since premiering at the Sundance Film Festival last year, but lands in UK cinemas this week.

Certain Women is in cinemas from 3 March www.parkcircus.com
