Even Jay Z Forgot Tidal Exists

In court, accused of sampling Egyptian composer Baligh Hamdi’s work in his track Big Pimpin’, Jay Z accidentally let slip that even he forgets about his music streaming service Tidal. Which is funny because so does everyone else.

Jay Z was telling the court what he does and said: ‘I make music, I’m a rapper, I’ve got a clothing line, I run a label, a media label called Roc Nation, with a sports agency, music publishing and management. Restaurants and nightclubs... I think that about covers it.’

His lawyer then reminded him about Tidal, and the rapper responded with, ‘Yeah, yeah. Forgot about that.’

You’re not the only one, mate. While it has reached a million users, it’s still hardly on a par with Spotify. In fact, the only benefit is that you can get Taylor Swift, Kanye and Jay Z’s music on it, after they pulled their tracks from Spotify, which is good, but not worth the initial £19.99 a month they were charging.

It now matches Spotify Premium’s £9.99 but still, who actually uses it?!

The exchange in court is just one of the hilarious things happening in the ongoing court case. To prove how little the sampling mattered to the overall song, Timbaland wanted to play a track, but his computer wouldn’t work so he beatboxed it. Sounds like a pretty fun trial.
