Ahhhh, it seems that Hermione Granger is finally all grown up. Yesterday, Emma Watson graduated with a bachelor's degree in English Literature from Brown University, six years after starting it.
Despite the fact it took her a few more years than most to complete her studies, we reckon we can probably forgive Emma for the delay. Since starting at the university back in 2009, she’s been announced as the highest-grossing actress of the decade, completed the Harry Potter films, made a cameo appearance in This Is The End and became Russell Crowe’s daughter-in-law in Noah, which was released this year. Indeed, she’s beginning to make us feel a little bit guilty that we spent our university years mostly wearing oversized jumpers and trying to decide if we could be bothered to go out and buy milk.
Apparently, she even had time to you know, do normal things like throw parties and eat food in public (shock horror). In an interview with the Sunday Times earlier this year, the actress described her first day at university: ‘I walked into the canteen and everyone went completely silent and turned to look at me. I had to say to myself, "It's OK, you can do this. You just have to take a deep breath and gather your courage.”’ Which all sounds a little Mean Girls-esque to us, but it seems things settled down quickly.
In a magazine interview last year, Emma said that she’d never been approached for an autograph on campus and that she ‘threw a party for nearly 100 students and not a single person put a photo on Facebook.' Ignoring the fact that if no one took photos at a party we'd organised, we’d be pretty damn upset, it seems like her fellow students at Brown did a pretty good job at treating Emma like a normal person.
Kudos to Emma as well for somehow managing to star in several very successful movies whilst balancing her studies at a bloody Ivy League college. We fully admire her multitasking abilities. Oh, and she took this pretty nice photo of herself in the traditional hat-and-gown get up:
