Last night, the 2017 MTV Movie and TV Awards took place in Los Angeles. And this year, the ceremony introduced a monumental change.

The prestigious evening sought inspiration from the Grammy Awards and finally moved away from gendered categories.

And Emma Watson made history after taking home the award for Best Actor in a Movie award for her stunning portrayal of Belle in the Beauty and the Beast live action remake.

Accepting the award, the actress declared: "MTV's move to create a genderless award for acting will mean something different to everyone, but to me it indicates that acting is about the ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes."

She continued, “This is very meaningful to me.”

The 27-year-old recently hinted at a Beauty and the Beast sequel. We have everything crossed.
