If Donald Trump asked you round to Trump Towers for dinner, what would you say?

Most of us would probably say no, but would you consider it, even a little bit? Think of the stories, after all...

And that’s exactly what Emma Thompson has said - that, years ago, she was called up by Trump himself and invited round.

Speaking to Sweden’s news channel SVT, the Love Actually and Beauty and The Beast actress described how Trump rang her up shortly after her divorce to actor Kenneth Branagh in 1995.

She said ‘The phone rings in my trailer, which it’s never done before, so it’s like a moose had just entered my trailer.

I lift up the phone. 'Hi, it’s Donald Trump here.” I said, “Really? Well, can I help you?

'He said "Yeah, I wonder if I could offer you some accommodation in one of my Trump Towers. They’re really comfortable. I think we would get on very well, maybe we could have dinner sometime."'

Thompson said she ‘didn’t know what to do with herself’ and, just replied saying ‘Erm, I’ll get back to you.’

Ironically enough, it turns out his offer came while Thompson was filming the movie Primary Colours in 1998 - based on Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign - and she was playing a character based on Hillary.

Imagine that for a 2017 plot twist…
