‘There’s no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible,’ a wise man (Mark Twain) once said.

It's a sentiment that pops up time and time again at the box office - whether it's Michael Fassbender VS. Ashton Kutcher’s version of Steve Jobs or two ‘Friends With Benefits’ style rom-coms released in 2011.

And now it appears that we have another big film Doppelganger on our hands – as two of Hollywood’s most in-demand actresses – Alicia Vikander and Emma Stone – are both lined up to play a young Agatha Christie, in biopics being developed at rival studios.

‘There are two Agatha Christie films in the works at Sony and Paramount,’ according to Hollywood Reporter. ‘Sony is courting Alicia Vikander to play a proto-feminist Christie uninterested in a traditional wife role (instead she intersects with the likes of Sherlock Holmes writer Arthur Conan Doyle and Winston Churchill).’

The Amazing Spiderman star is also said to be in the running to play the crime writer.‘Atop Paramount's wish list is Emma Stone to play the British literary sensation, with the story postulating what happened to Christie during the 11 days she went missing in 1926 (she died in 1976 at age 85).’

One thing that’s for certain - there’s some series Agatha Christie mania happening right now. The British public went into a frenzy after that scene with Aidan Turner in the TV version of And Then There Were None, at Christmas. And an adaptation of Christie’s classic, Murder on the Orient Express - starring Angelina Jolie - is already in the works.

At Grazia, we can't help but think that both Emma and Alicia would be perfect playing the bestselling female author.

Question is: who’ll get there first?

The great Hollywood mystery continues. Agatha would be proud.
