The fact that Emma Corrin – a relatively unknown Cambridge graduate who actually owns a dog called Spencer- will make her debut as Lady Diana Spencer in the iconic Netflix drama The Crown later this year is reason enough to already be completely obsessed with her.

But it seems the 23-year-old is already taking a stand against feminist issues, as she has now revealed the reason why she pursued acting in the first place was because she was snubbed whilst modelling at London Fashion Week for not being able to fit a pair of breeches over her legs.

In an unearthed Cambridge Girl Talk blog post written by Emma, she explained that the whole experience was the 'final nail in the coffin.'

She wrote: “Why did the rejection of the modelling industry get to me so much?

“I think the answer is that these rejections were based on how I looked and I had always prided myself on a healthy amount of self-confidence which I was now rapidly losing.

“The real nail in the coffin was when I finally got through to a fitting for a show and the designer handed me a pair of breeches and I couldn’t get them past my calf muscles, which are pronounced because I’m a runner.

“The designer looked surprised and embarrassed as he said, “Sorry, it’s just we’re not used to girls who exercise”, implying that the models he was expecting dieted themselves in order to fit into his clothes.

"I could have slapped him."

Netflix confirmed that Emma will be joining the cast of The Crown Season Four on Twitter.

Commenting on her new role, she said: "I have been glued to the show since the first episode and to think I’m now joining this incredibly talented acting family is just surreal. Princess Diana was an icon, and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To be given the chance to explore her through Peter Morgan’s writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice!"

The third series of the hit Netflix show – which has Oscar winner Olivia Colman as the Queen and Helena Bonham-Carter as Princess Margaret – finished filming last month. It is set to be released in July.
