She’s about to return to the big screen in the most hotly anticipated films of the year/decade/century (delete according to Girl On The Train fandom level). But - shock horror - becoming one of Britain’s most respected actors wasn’t always the path the super talented Emily Blunt was on…

According to the 33-year old actress, she was instead almost woo-ed by the dizzy heights of popstardom while she was still at school, signing a contract and even recording a demo. 'I was 18 and I was just, well, you know, I was 18. I was at that stage of my life where I was like, "Who cares, yeah, maybe; that sounds cool." Everything sounds cool other than being in school at 18,' Blunt told The Sydney Morning Herald last week.

'But then I got terrified and pulled out because I felt they were wanting me to be like Britney Spears,' she explained. 'And I was like, "I can't dance, and I don't sing like Britney Spears." I just felt it was snowballing too fast and it wasn't ultimately what I wanted to do.' There you have it people - Emily Blunt narrowly missed getting sucked into the music industry - and being Britney Spears-ed.

By a small, fortunate twist of fate, an agent came across her not long after, and asked her if she’d ever thought about acting. 'I said, "That would be great, sure, I'll give it a go’” said Blunt.

Despite the poor (read: disastrous) reception that Blunt’s recent musical endeavor Into The Woods received, a quick YouTube of ‘Emily Blunt singing’ will bring up little treasures like this, proving the actress could actually have had a very successful musical career, had that been more her jam.

We don’t know about you, but we’re very glad she didn’t choose the Hit Me Baby One More Time career path over her thespian one. Imagine the last twelve years with no Blunt in My Summer of Love, no Blunt in The Young Victoria, and - heaven forbid - no Blunt in The Devil Wears Prada.
