Ed Sheeran trying his hand at charity has seriously backfired

Ed Sheeran Donates Old Clothes. No One Wants Them.

There really is nothing like waking up to a good old bit of celebrity philanthropy. These moments of beautiful charity restore my faith in the world. But what about when it goes wrong? What about when your attempts at generosity go unwanted? What if, despite your A-list status and sell-out arena tour, no one wants your tatty old clothes?

Ed Sheeran’s old clothes have been well and truly snubbed by the people of Suffolk, and we’re wondering why.

It’ll be news to no one that upon finding fame overseas, Ed Sheeran underwent a MAJOR IMAGE CHANGE. The plaid shirt that so defined his early career disappeared almost overnight, without a trace. That is until now.

It has transpired that Sheeran’s entire old wardrobe was donated to charity last year in an effort to ‘smarten up his image’, says charity shop manager, Jacqui Bell. One year on, however, these pieces of statement retro-grunge fashion have failed to sell.

The Sue Ryder branch in Framlingham that received the donation last year believed themselves to be lucky custodians of this famous old wardrobe. They have since been forced to place the four unsold items on eBay in a last ditch attempt to actually make some money.

At first, it came as a surprise that no budding Sheerios jumped at this chance of real-life ownership of some Ed’s old clothing. We wondered whether something big had happened. Maybe he’d fallen out with Taylor? Maybe he’d dyed his hair? But then we actually looked at the clothing.

Perhaps it’s true: sometimes, ugly clothes just can’t sell. Not even when their previous owner was an authentic friend of Taylor Swift.
