Ed Sheeran WAS Married All Along

Rumours have been swirling since their January 2018 engagement was announced that Ed Sheeran and partner Cherry Seaborn had tied the knot already, and in secret. February this year saw The Sun report that the pair had held an intimate winter wedding, and it sounds like the scoop was bang on – speaking to Charlemagne Tha God on his YouTube channel about his much-anticipated new album No 6 Collaborations Project, Ed set the record straight once and for all. Discussing lyrics from his Eminem and 50 Cent collaboration Remember The Name, he addressed fan speculation stoked by a couple of lines in particular: Watch how the lyrics in the songs might get twisted / My wife wears red, but looks better without the lipstick. It doesn’t take a detective to note the inference that the pair are more than friends, but Sheeran explained that he wrote the lyrics before they walked down the aisle: ‘It was actually before me and Cherry got married and I knew that we'd be married by the point that the song came out’, he said. ‘[I thought] Someone's gonna hear that and be like, 'Oh, they're married!' I didn't know how that would be construed, but obviously it's already come out.’

The pair have known each other since they were children, and started dating in 2015 when Ed invited his now-spouse to a very star studded get together – Taylor Swift’s 4th of July party. Sheeran told People, ‘I’ve known Cherry since I was 11’, but that they reconnected in the US when she was working on Wall Street and he was playing shows in the area. ‘I kinda said to Taylor, “Can I invite one of my old schoolmates?” The rest is history.’ Ed’s interview with Charlemagne Tha God covered more than his marriage to Cherry, seeing him speak adoringly about their relationship more broadly: ‘I constantly wake up every day with Cherry and I’m just like “Why the fuck are you with me? You could literally be with whoever you want and you’ve chosen me…” I just find that amazing’.

Well, look – if that doesn’t warm your heart, what hope is there? And if you’re going to announce you’re married, there are worse ways to do it than releasing an album featuring collaborations with the world’s biggest stars in music (oh, just Justin Bieber, Cardi B, Eminem, Stormzy, to name a few). If the rumoured second wedding this summer does come to pass – ‘festival-style’ according to the Sun’s source who reported the first low-key affair – the pair’s guest list won’t be lacking in celebrity.
