Safe to say that Steven Spielberg’s epic fantasy E.T. has infiltrated pop culture three decades later. But the 1982 blockbuster didn’t just have a lasting impact across music, film and fashion – the magical movie, of course, made a star out of a then 7-year-old Drew Barrymore (her scream will stay with you too).
Now 41, with a lifestyle brand and a string of hit rom-coms behind her, the A-list actress is now paying homage to her big break in Hollywood which launched her to stardom 34 years ago.
In a string of posts on Instagram Drew Barrymore has shared with her 4.9 million followers the cutest ‘80s throwback pictures on set of E.T. with Rashida Jones (and her alien co-star, obvs) to the sweetest pen pal letter you will ever read.
‘Hi! I am Drew Barrymore. I am in 2nd grade,’ in a letter Drew wrote in 1982. ‘I got to Fountain school. I enjoy school a lot. I have blonde hair and blue eyes too. My favourite things to do are acting and to take jazz and my favourite sports are swimming…I am happy with my life just the way I am.’ Eloquent penmanship for a kid in primary school.
But a lot has changed in her life since then. All of Drew’s ah-mazing archived snaps were hashtagged #oldstorageunitday – after finalising her divorce from Will Kopelman (father of her two daughters; Olive and Frankie) this month the Charlie’s Angels actress appears to be in the midst of a big clear out.
