The series came to an end in 2015 with an extravagant New Year's Eve party. But it won't be long until the nation’s much-loved cast grace our screens once again.
The teaser clip, which is just over one-minute long, does not give too much away, but nevertheless it has us on tenterhooks.
In the footage viewers get to gaze at the titular mansion, as well as its grounds, in all its glory, while a mystery character rides up to the Crawley residence.
The clip takes the viewers inside the home, and captures servants cleaning, while bells chime and clocks tick in the background. The trailer goes on to pan to the street where locals wait in anticipation for the arrival of someone VERY important.
The trailer reads: “Next year you are cordially invited.”
The original cast from the ITV series will return; Hugh Bonneville will reprise his role as Robert Crawley, and his on-screen wife Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary Crawley will also feature in the production.
Laura Carmichael will reprise her role as Lady Edith Crawley, while Jim Carter will return as Mr Carson, and Joanne Froggatt as lady’s maid Anna Bates.
Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Elizabeth MCGovern, Sophie McShera and Maggie Smith are also set to star in the film adaptation.
But there will also be some new faces too. Imelda Staunton, Kate Phillips, David Haig, as well as other actors, are tipped to join the cast.
However, the trailer did not give away details about the new cast’s roles. The end shot simply listed the character’s names: Lord Grantham, Lady Grantham, Lady Mary Talbot, Lady Hexham, Lady Merton, The Dowager Lady Grantham, Mr Carson, Tom Branson – you get the gist.
