Donald Trump's Daughter Tiffany Is Dating A Democrat - So What?

Outspoken politician Donald Trump has been in the news more than we’d have liked in 2015, but hey, that’s what happens when you’re running for President and you’ve got a (horrible) opinion or three.

But now Trump’s daughter Tiffany has come under scrutiny because she’s reportedly dating a guy who’s a Democrat and supposedly a Hillary Clinton supporter.

The Daily Mail has launched an investigation into her new boyfriend, Ross Mechanic, who is a registered Democrat and apparently ‘likes’ Hillary Clinton on Facebook.

The fact that the pair are dating isn’t really huge news. He moves in the same super-rich circles as Tiffany, as he’s also the heir to a New York real estate dynasty, and both are college students at the University of Pennsylvania. He’s studying software engineering, while she is a sociology and urban studies major.

But it’s the fact that the Republican politician’s daughter is dating someone who doesn’t hold the same political views as her father that has piqued peoples’ interest.

Aside from the slightly awkward Meet The Parents-style scenario one could imagine Trump and Mechanic having around the dinner table (we’re assuming politics wouldn’t be discussed), it’s hardly to be expected that Tiffany should date someone from the same political party as her dad.

After all, plenty of people date and are friends with people who don’t agree on politics. My husband and I voted differently in the last election, and while we’ve had a few ‘heated’ chats about politics while watching Newsnight in bed, it makes things more interesting tbh.

One thing is clear though, Tiffany supports her father’s campaign. She told TV journalist Barbara Walters:

‘He’s true to himself. And he speaks in a way that the average person can understand. I think that’s refreshing for everyone. I’m so happy to be Tiffany Trump, happy to be in the family I’m in.’
