Being a Hollywood actress in her former life, it is unsurprising that Meghan Markle likes to look after herself. While we knew that the former Suits star and LA-native was a big fan of hitting the gym and following a healthy diet – as evidenced by her pre-wedding workout and her now defunct lifestyle blog the Tig – but we weren’t aware that she was also a vegan – part-time, anyway.
Speaking to Best Health in May 2016, Markle explained that in order to stay in shape she avoided meat and dairy during the week while filming, but loosened her diet over the weekend.
‘When I’m filming, I’m conscious of what I eat,’ she said. ‘I try to eat vegan during the week and then have a little bit more flexibility with what I dig into on the weekends. But at the same time, it’s all about balance.’
However, she was quick to point out that she doesn’t ever deny herself anything, instead focusing on building strength the healthy way, by following a balanced diet and listening to her body.
‘Because I work out the way I do, I don’t ever want to feel deprived,’ she continued. ‘I feel that the second you do that is when you start to binge on things. It’s not a diet; it’s lifestyle eating.’
