In a week filled with bleak news stories let this be your ray of sunshine:* The Devil Wears Prada* is coming to the stage…as a musical. The decade-old film, which is based on Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel of the same name, is being transformed into a Broadway show.
Elton John has been tapped to write the score with stage heavyweight Paul Rudnick. Insiders have noted production company Rocket Entertainment, which is owned by the Candle in the Wind singer’s hubby David Furnish, is helping bankroll the musical.
While it will take Elton writing a lot of bangers to make us forget that Meryl Streep won’t be starring, the singer has a strong Broadway track record. In the past, he won a Grammy for The Lion King and a Tony for Billy Elliot.
‘Reimagining _The Devil Wears Prada f_or the musical theatre is super exciting, said John in a press release, ‘I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film, and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. I can't wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture.’
While the story of Andy Sachs, an aspiring journalist who gets her break in glossy mag Runway under the pernickety eye of editor Miranda Priestly may be ten-years-old, still resonates today.
