After an article revealed Davina from Selling Sunset's real age - the internet seemed very happy indeed that Davina Potratz is 44, instead of '30ish', as was made out on the show. 'Davina finally being outed for her age,' somebody tweeted as if a crime had been committed. 'Think we all knew she wasn’t 30.'
In the age of cancel culture, why are we 'outing' a woman for her real age as if it's a bad thing? Being 44 and telling everybody otherwise isn't illegal. We love Selling Sunset - but, despite that, we just can't get over the obsession with how old the (incredibly successful and wealthy) women are. Honestly, if it was a group of men selling houses, we wouldn't be inspecting their forehead wrinkles and trying to determine just how old they are.
Yes, Davina might not have been owning her age - and now there's proof - but a lot of women lie about their age. In one office we used to work in, some of the women had 'showbiz ages' - a few years knocked off their actual ages. We thought it was funny, but actually it's quite sad that women feel the need to lie.
Lying about your age isn't a massive crime, especially when the only reason women do that is because getting older as a woman isn't seen to be a positive thing, we're sold creams, surgery, whatever, just to try and turn back the clock, unlike men 'aging like fine wine'. There are far, far worse things to lie about than your age.
Maybe stop laughing at women changing their ages when there's less pressure for us to stay eternally youthful.
