It seems like all that time hanging out in Hollywood with Tom Cruise has gone to David Beckham’s head. The ex-footie star now wants to tread the illustrious path of Eric Cantona and..erm.. Vinny Jones and wants to become a film star.

Thankfully, since he retired from football back in 2013, there’s a whole lot less balls flying at that pretty face, so it could well be a possibility. Especially since he’s had previous form pouting and posing in a Guy Richie short film for H&M and more recently, with a small speaking part in Guy’s new film, Knights of The Roundtable: King Arthur.Anyone get the feeling Guy might be paving the way for Becks in the film world?

Anyway, his dalliance in the King Arthur film was something of a big deal for Becks. He said: “I had 13 lines and practised a huge amount beforehand. Guy had someone come and rehearse with me, and I did that an hour every day in the build-up.” Sounds like a lead role might be some way off… But he’s nothing if not keen.

David told The Times that it’s now his dream to make in big in the film world: “I am very aware that many sportsmen and other celebrities have turned their hand to acting – and failed. I know it is a tough profession, where you need a huge amount of skill and discipline. I wouldn’t want to push myself forward too soon, without learning more about it, and doing a lot more practice.

“But what I have done so far, I have loved. I can deal with most things. I am a well-known person, so I have got used to criticism.”

In fact, he reckons taking to the big screen is almost like taking a penalty on the pitch. He explained: “It was nerve-racking delivering the lines, but it actually went really well. The thing about sport is that it gets the heart beating faster. You focus the mind in order to deliver. Acting has a similar feel.”

Can we just say that we’d have absolutely no problems at all staring at his face for two hours. We’ve probably clocked in that amount of time swooning over his Armani ads, anyway.

And if you like the idea of Becks acting, there are reports in The Daily Star hinting he's "seriously considering" playing James Bond. We'll take that one with a pinch of salt - but he would look dashing in the suave suit, martini in hand.
