You don't need to tell us that Phoebe Waller-Bridge is talented. We've laughed and cried as we've rewatched Fleabag - both series - about a thousand times. We've watched her pick up several well-deserved awards. So we're pleased to hear that there's another member of the Phoebe Fan Club (is that a thing? Can we actually join?): actor Daniel Craig. In a new interview, the Bond actor calls Phoebe the 'best fucking writer around.'
April will see the release of No Time To Die, the latest Bond film and Daniel's fifth and final outing as the skirt-chasing, martini-swilling spy. Last year Phoebe, fresh off the success of Fleabag and Killing Eve, was recruited to join the writing team, and she's won the leading man over. A new preview of the film in Entertainment Weekly features a profile of Daniel, in which he pays her the expletive-laden compliment. We knew we liked him.
Daniel's not the only member of the cast to have Phoebe Fever. Rami Malek, who plays Bond villain Safin, says she was heavily involved.
'She had quite an impact on what I was doing,' he says. 'I’d have long phone conversations with her, giving her context as to what we were essentially looking for in the scenes, and she would turn things over incredibly quickly. We know her as a very witty and funny writer, but she’s got a knack for drama and tension as well.'
Weirdly, though, Phoebe herself isn't exactly sure how much of her work will be featured in the final film. Asked last year if audiences would recognise her wit, she said: 'I have no idea. I left long before it had finished filming and they are rewriting all the time, so... I hope so.'
Alas, the film will not feature a Fleabag reunion: Andrew Scott, who played the Hot Priest in Fleabag's second series, won't be able to reprise his role of MI5 boss C from Spectre, the last Bond film. Why not? Best give it a watch if you don't know. Spoilers!
