Angela Lansbury, style icon, life icon, and now: Olivier winner. The 89 year old received the award for her supporting role in Blithe Spirit, where she plays an eccentric medium, and gave a brilliant speech like the legend she is. Imagine being 89 and still nailing it on the boards! Serious inspiration alert, and proof that good things come to those who wait.
'All these years of waiting. I am so infinitely grateful to have this baby in my hands,' Dame Angela said in her acceptance speech. 'Here I am creeping up to 90 and feeling like a million dollars because I'm in London in this magnificent hall with all you - my roots, where I began. I can't remember a lot of things these days - except I can remember my lines!'
Born in East London in 1925, Angela was basically our childhood, and if you didn't watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks then GTFO, because you definitely did watch her as Jessica Fletcher in *Murder She Wrote *when you were off sick from school. That, Columbo and *Diagnosis Murder *were the only shows worth watching during the day.
And in other Awesome Females Winning Awards news, over at the MTV Awards, Shailene Woodley won the Trailblazer award after nabbing the gong for Best Female Performance for Fault In Our Stars. Plus, she genuinely hadn't thought of anything to say, so awkwardly made a joke about pot: 'What am I trying to say? I just have no idea... To all of you who have been pillars to me, thank you,' she said. 'I was gonna say let's blaze on but I don't know if I can say that! So, let's trailblaze on!' We love her.
