Lockdown has meant that we have been consuming more TV and film than ever. To be frank, we’re running out of box sets, and we’re really missing the cinema. Just in time, The High Note is arriving in our lives after its cinematic release was replaced with a digital one due to the coronavirus pandemic. Because if the world needs anything right now, it’s a new comedy.
Starring Dakota Johnson and the divine Tracee Ellis Ross and set in the rollercoaster world of the music industry, it’s a tonic for our times. Take a look at an exclusive featurette featuring Dakota herself.
‘Maggie is a young woman working as an assistant to an iconic musician, Grace Davies’, Dakota explains of the concept. ‘Maggie is really intelligent and talented. Her ambition is to become a producer.' But, as you can see, it's not an easy world to crack, and Dakota's character has a lot of strong personalities to contend with.
'It’s hard to step into your power when you feel you’re at the mercy of somebody else', Dakota says. 'On the side she’s secretly been secretly producing a live album for Grace. Even when you get to the place you always wanted to be, you have to hustle to maintain it. It’s very smart, funny and sweet.’
Dakota has plenty of experience observing musicians. She is in a long-term relationship with Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay and ex-husband of Gwyneth Paltrow. Tracee, meanwhile, is the daughter of Diana Ross, so may have borrowed some tips from one of music’s most glamorous women.
We’re in for a treat.
The High Note is available to rent at home 29th May on Sky Store, Amazon Prime Video and other digital retailers
