Whatever your feelings about exes and going back to them (arguably not always a great idea): It's been reported that Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson are back together after rumours that they'd broken-up back in April.
Inside sources told the American titles E! and Us Weekly that the two have re-united after Dakota took Chris as her date to the wrap party of her new film: Covers. A source told E! 'They're planning to spend more time together later this summer.' - romantic and cute! We're here for it.
While their initial split was never officially confirmed by either party - Chris and Dakota were reported to have broken up a few months ago. The reason for their speculated break-up was left unclear. However, an LA-based source told Grazia ‘Chris and Dakota hit a stumbling block in their relationship a few months back over their plans for the future it was reported last week that [Dakota isn’t yet ready for children, while Chris is], and decided that it was best to take a break.’
It was also suggested that GOOP-founding Gwyneth's famously close relationship with her ex-husband might have been partly to blame. Grazia's source went on to say: ‘while they’ve taken steps to build a relationship – and Gwyneth went out of her way to make sure that they were putting on a united front – in the end, it actually became quite a lot of pressure for Dakota.’
When Did Dakota Johnson And Chris Martin First Get Together?
So what does history tell us about the (famously) private couple's relationship up until now?: Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin were first reported to be officially dating in December 2017, per a report by US Weekly.
'Dakota and Chris are definitely dating,' a source told the magazine. 'They've gotten to know each other really well and are very comfortable [with] one another. Chris sends Dakota his music to get her opinion. It's more than just a fling.'
The Coldplay frontman and the Fifty Shades of Grey actress were first spotted together in Argentina in December 2017 where she was watching him perform at a gig, while the latest fan sighting places them at the Yam7 restaurant in Israel. Dakota proved popular with Hollywood's eligible bachelors, and she was linked to Mad Men's Jon Hamm and Elon Musk before it was confirmed that she and Chris were an item.
The news also came after Martin’s ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, officially finished ‘consciously uncoupling’ from him as she accepted the proposal of her boyfriend of three years Brad Falchuk. The two met when Paltrow was a guest star on his hit series Glee, and have largely kept their relationship private.
In the years following his split from Gwyneth (or should we say 'conscious uncoupling'), Chris Martin was linked to a bevy of celebrity beauties, including British actress Annabelle Wallis, Oscar-winning mega-star Jennifer Lawrence and even rumoured old flame Alexa Chung.
Their coupling wasn't that surprising: Dakota might have a thing for British musicians, having previously dated Welsh indie frontman Matt Hitt, who performs with the band The Drowners. In a nice twist of fate, Hitt has also been linked to Alexa Chung, proving once and for all that Hollywood is just as incestuous as normal friendship groups.
Now that the couple are (reportedly) back together after their (reported) split - who knows, perhaps this is evidence that old adage: 'what's meant to be will always find a way' really is true after all? We'll have to wait and see...
