Another day, another instance of a woman in the public eye being shamed for a totally normal aspect of her appearance.
But Selma Blair is not the kind of lady to take an insult lying down.
The 44-year-old actress responded with a on-point blend of sarcasm and humour, after the Daily Mail highlighted her greying roots.
A tabloid photographer for the newspaper zoomed in on her hair, accompanied by a charming caption that analysed how she was - shock, horror - "sporting a stripe of silver roots at her parting".
The Cruel Intentions star was having none of it.
While other people might have ignored the piece, mum-of-one Selma took to Instagram to call it out.
Sharing a photo of the article (above), the Hollywood pro wrote:
"Happy Monday. Things to do: turn off Google alert. 😕Stop eating four cupcakes a day. 😫Ask The Daily Mail if they could possibly start using filters. 🤡 Wear exquisite hats! 🤠I think I have a fantasy I will grow my hair gloriously grey. But it doesn't seem a real option. ☁️ Thanks to this thoughtful paparazzi dude who has given me such a warm and fuzzy feeling. 😂 #ohitstuesday 😂😂"
Her tongue-in-cheek, humble and slightly biting comeback exposed the article for exactly what it is - mean-spirited sexism.
Women on Instagram rallied to applaud her response.
"You are lovely," wrote one. "We as strong women have to fight society. We don't owe anyone anything but to be authentically ourselves. You're beautiful either way- but even if you weren't- we don't owe beauty to anyone."
"You look amazing to me!" another said. "Eat the cupcakes, indulge, live and love unapologetically and I dare say you're ageing magnificently!"
Hear, hear.
Selma, we salute you...
