Sex And The City star Cynthia Nixon says she had no experience of women before meeting her wife-to-be, Christine Marinoni.
The actress came out in 2004, two years after she first met education activist Christine.
The couple have a son together, Max, whom Christine gave birth to in 2011. Cynthia also has two older children - Samantha and Charles - with her ex-husband, photographer Danny Mozes.
"I had never dated a woman before or even kissed a woman or anything," Cynthia tells the Radio Times, of her relationship with Christine.
"So when we started seeing each other, Christine kept waiting for the other show to drop, for me to panic about what this would mean – to my career or to myself – as if somehow I just hadn’t noticed that she was a woman."
But Cynthia says Christine was reassured after she introduced her to her family: "Then she met my mother and that was when she stopped worrying about it."
The couple married in New York City in 2012, less than a year after gay marriage became legal in that state.
Cynthia has previously spoken about how close her other two children are to Christine - so much so, that they call her "mummy". The couple live together with them and Max in New York.
"When I am starting to date a woman for the first time, I don’t want a photographer there at the first date but feel that once we are a solid couple and we are living together and stuff, I don’t know how one would try and hide that," Cynthia remarked, in a past interview about , and her relationship with Christine.
"For most of us in our lives, whether we are public people or not, generally the person we go to bed with that night, that person is not a secret. You wouldn’t try to hide your husband or your wife or your girlfriend or your boyfriend, the person that you’re sharing your life with."
