Carrie is Jo, naturally

Four very different women, facing the trials and tribulations of life, work and love? Are we talking about comedy classic Sex And The City? Or classic novel Little Women? The two are cultural phenomena in their own way, but we admit we hadn't exactly put them together before. Until now, of course.

Yesterday Cynthia Nixon, who played self-sufficient lawyer Miranda in Sex And The City , took to Instagram to share word of her latest trip to the cinema. Like many of us, she chose the new adaptation of Little Women, by director Greta Gerwig and starring Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh and Meryl Streep. Unsurprisingly, she was a fan, but she also saw a parallel between the film and the programme that made her famous.

'Saw Little Women this weekend', she wrote. 'Loved it. Seemed familiar somehow...' She included two images: one still from the film, and one still from the final series of Sex And The City. She also tagged in her co-stars, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Kim Cattrall.

We have to say, we're loving the comparison. Even the order seems right. Miranda - arguably the only truly nice one in the group of women - is the natural choice for Beth. Carrie, a writer at the centre of her story, is obviously Jo. Charlotte, a little prim and the most socially 'civilised' of the four, seems like an obvious Meg, and Samantha, fierce and funny and passionate, is clearly Amy.

Cynthia's followers obviously loved the post, giving it tens of thousands of likes, showing that love for the series - and, of course, the beloved novel - has refused to fade.

Be right back: just rewatching the entire series in a new light!
