After an accident during training left her concussed earlier this week, 18-year-old Rowan Cheshire was unable to compete in the women’s ski half pipe qualification at Sochi yesterday. There had been high hopes for her success in the Games, having won her first World Cup title in Calgary last month.
But even a bruised and battered face wasn't going to stop her from heading out to support fellow Brit skier Emma Lonsdale, against whom she would have been competing had it not been for her fall. Wearing a pair of sunglasses to hide her two black eyes, Rowan cheered her friend from the slopes after the girls shared a flawlessly executed fist bump before Emma plugged in her iPod and headed for the half pipe.
The support was reciprocated when, waiting to hear her results, Emma removed her gloves to show off a message on her (Union Jack themed) manicured hand, pulling up her sleeve and pointing it at the camera.

N’aawww! This showcase of female solidarity and support has made us all form a big-time girl crush on the friends. Emma came 15th in the qualification round, meaning she’s missed out on competing in the final. She’ll be ok, though – we bet Rowan’s sorted her out with a bear hug and a bottle (or three) of white wine.
