Settle down folks, you’ll want to be comfortable for this wild ride. Do you remember that shocker of a story that broke last year about Colin Firth, his wife Livia Giuggioli, and her affair with her alleged stalker? If not, let us refresh your memory.
In March 2018 it was revealed that Bridget Jones actor and the best Mr Darcy (don’t fight us on this one), Firth and Giuggioli made headlines when she admitted to having an affair with an Italian journalist named Marco Brancaccia while she and Colin were separated between 2015 and 2016. This came after Giuggioli accused the Italian journalist of harassing her with “frightening” messages. The police investigated, but the man in question – Brancaccia – denied the accusation and told The Times that she was lying to hide their relationship. In the end, Giuggioli admitted that her accusations of stalking were false and confirmed the relationship. At the time, their rep told The Times: “A few years ago, Colin and Livia privately made the decision to separate. During that time, Livia briefly became involved with former friend Mr. Brancaccia. The Firths have since reunited.”
The statement continued, “Subsequently, Mr. Brancaccia carried out a frightening campaign of harassment over several months, much of which is documented. For obvious reasons, the Firths have never had any desire to make this matter public.”
Brancaccia vehemently denied this, telling The Times, "I wrote an email to Colin about my relationship with Livia, which I now regret sending, and she filed a complaint against me for stalking out of fear that I could go public with what she had revealed to me about her marriage and work.”
Still with us? It’s complicated, we know. Fast forward to today and there has been a development. According to their reps, Firth and Giuggioli have decided to separate.“Colin and Livia Firth have separated. They maintain a close friendship and remain united in their love for their children. They kindly ask for privacy. There will be no further comment,” an official statement said.
Firth and Giuggioli were married in 1997 and are parents to sons Luca Firth, 18, and Matteo Firth, 16.
As of now, it's not clear whether the couple will go through an official divorce.
