The ever-iconic Cindy Crawford is well known for many things; being a supermodel, game-changing red carpet outfits and THAT Pepsi ad.
Crawford’s 1992 Super Bowl ad is definitely up there among her most memorable moments.
Even if you weren’t alive at the time, you’ve probably seen it and felt the lasting power of the images in that ad which impacted generations to come.
This is exactly what Pepsi has capitalised on with its latest ad.
The brand is using icons from previous ads including Crawford, and footage from Michael Jackson’s spot for the brand.
Crawford’s son 18-year-old Presley Walker Gerber will also star in the ad, and Crawford says that’s made her even more excited about the project:
‘We drove to work together that day and we shared the same trailer,’ she told AP in a phone interview.
‘And when he was doing his thing, I was just a proud mom watching from the sidelines, trying not to annoy him.’

The original ad had a huge impact on Crawford’s career 26 years ago, she recalls how the public reacted: ‘It was one of those moments in my career that when I walked down the street, people were like, “Pepsi!” Or I’d be at a bar and people would send me over a Pepsi.’
Drawing inspiration from the past seems to be a good move for Pepsi, as the brand was in hot water last year over a Kendall Jenner advert which appropriated Black Lives Matter protests and other protest movements. The ad saw Jenner majestically stopping a protest by handing a police officer in riot gear a can of Pepsi.
For some, the very fresh memory of that ad will surely spring to mind when they see Cindy Crawford drinking from the same can that Kendall did. But at least Pepsi has realised the past is a safe place for them to draw inspiration from.
Also at the Super Bowl this year Justin Timberlake will perform -- the first time he’s been asked back since the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction of 2001, and Pink will sing the US national anthem before the show, with US actress Alexandria Wailes performing the anthemin sign language.
Cindy Crawford’s Pepsi ad will air on February 4 during the Super Bowl game in Minneapolis, and kick off is expected to be around 6pm Eastern Time, which is 11pm GMT.
