A representative for Dakota Johnson has denied reports of a split between the actor and Chris Martin. It comes after reports that the couple had called off their engagement. The couple first began dating in 2017 and briefly split in 2019 before getting back together. They have been engaged since 2020 but today the Daily Mail reported that the pair had split.
'The reports are not true,' a rep told Grazia. 'They are happily together.'
The shock rumour caused a spike in Google searches, notably for 'Have Chris Martin Dakota Johnson broken up?' and 'Dakota Johnson engagement ring' - presumably, sleuthers were looking for clues as to whether Dakota has been seen with her engagement ring recently.
Somewhat sensationally, there was also breakout search for 'Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal'. Most likely, that's due to the fact they filmed an upcoming romantic comedy, Materialists, earlier this summer and were subject to dating rumours at the time. However, the pair are simply friends and colleagues.
The Daily Mail report said: 'Chris and Dakota have tried desperately hard over the past few months to make their relationship work. They’ll always have love for each other but they’ve both come to the conclusion the relationship cannot be sustained long-term.
'They’re both busy people, Chris has been in Europe with Coldplay and they both have personal priorities, passions, and work commitments which don’t naturally intertwine with each other. They wanted it to work but it just hasn’t, and they’ve now accepted it is best to move on.'
It's not the first time rumours have wrongly spread about a split between Dakota and Chris, earlier this summer it was reported that they had split, but at the time a source for People magazine denied any break up. The source said the Coldplay singer and Madame Web actor were 'going strong'. Adding, they've 'had ups and downs, but now they’re definitely back on'.

The rumours were perhaps bolstered by new pictures of Dakota Johnson without her engagement ring on - but hey, isn't a girl allowed to take off her jewellery every now and then? Dakota is currently in Malibu while Chris is performing in the final leg of Coldplay's tour in Munich.
