Over the weekend, Chris Brown deleted a controversial picture from his Instagram. Chris has previously insty-ed images of him dressed up as Osama Bin Laden for Halloween, stills of him in court (annotated with tales of how prison has helped him grow as a man), braggy photos of his Rolexes and selfies of him taking a shit before his concerts. So why did he remove this one? A still of his music video No Bullshit, which was made in 2010, it’s been around for a while. Well, it seems the image reached a tipping point because it shows him licking a woman’s backside along with the caption ‘eat da booty!’ (Just FYI, his tongue, though long, is nowhere near the woman in question’s actual bumhole).
You see, rimming’s a hot topic in the rap world right now. As well as Drake being mocked for allegedly liking being rimmed, rapper Kevin Gates recently set comment boards across the internet alight by detailing how he likes to pleasure a woman. ‘I’ve been incarcerated. I’ve been away from a woman, so when I’m around a woman I appreciate that woman, I aim to please my partner,' he told a radio show.‘If this is the woman I’m loving yeah I’ll suck her toes, eat her booty, all that. This is how I’m living!’
He's so into rimming, in fact, that he wanted to point out that he was the one who started it: ‘A lot of rappers, a lot of men have just started coming out of the closet and saying: “Yeah I eat booty” Yeah, because I made it cool! I just wanted y’all to know the origin. It’s ok to appreciate your woman.’
But Chris didn’t seem to agree with this sentiment, so took the piss out of Kevin, as he'd not only posted the photo of him distinctly not rimming a woman, but uploaded a video of himself mocking Kevin and his #IDGT (I don’t get tired) motto.
It totally backfired on Chris, though, who then had a whole bunch of people on social media saying he was gross for eating ass, or at least a prick for making women think it was something to be expected in a man's sexual repertoire.
We’d totally respect Chris’s jibes if a) rimming was all that bad (between two consenting adults, it’s not, is it?) or b) he was making the more nuanced argument that bragging about the kinky things you do in bed doesn’t actually make you a better person. It's all a bit reminiscent of those biker gangs that combine Jackass-like gross-out stunts with sexual acts, awarding wings on jackets of members who have e.g. gone down on a woman on her period, gone down on a corpse or gang-raped a woman. They do this stuff not to actually please a woman, but to score lad points for themselves by appearing more daring.

Though Kevin’s daring for admitting that he likes to give a woman pleasure, something sadly too rare in hip hop – remember how Fat Joe opened a song with ‘Let you know from the gate I don’t go down baby’? – we hope he’s been doing this out of sheer adoration for women and their bums, instead of an attempt to prove how prison made him straighter than ever.
As for Chris? Maybe he’ll find some better subjects to joke about than a man who's so eager to please a woman. Or at least have the balls to keep a photo uploaded to Instagram – those are some below-the-line comments we really wanted to see!
