Chris Brown is being treated for Bi Polar disorder, severe insomnia and PTSD, a court heard on Friday.

The singer’s condition was revealed as he attended a progress hearing in Los Angeles, which stems from his assault of ex-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. The court was read an addadavit from professionals at the rehab facility he’s been attending as part of a 95-day treatment program for anger management, which said that his anger issues stemmed from him inappropriately self medicating.

'Mr Brown became aggressive and acted out physically due to his untreated mental health disorder, severe sleep deprivation, inappropriate self-medicating and untreated PTSD,’ reported the facility, according to TMZ, who obtained the court documents.

They go on to say that Brown is now being treated for Bipolar II Disorder, tested negatives for drugs during his stint in rehab, and had learnt ‘invaluable’ relaxing techniques. It was also noted that Chris's 'attitude has been beyond exemplary in regard to his community service responsibilities'.

Now we all love a good redemption story, but we’re not really sure how we feel about this one. Obviously it’s great he’s getting the treatment he needs, particularly as he’s been suffering from a serious mental illness. And he appears to be doing everything he can to get better which again... great. But is anyone else just a little bit concerned this latest news will be used to explain away what he did to Rihanna?
