Chelsea Clinton has made her parents Bill and Hillary very happy with the news that she is expecting her first child, with her husband Marc Mezvinsky.

Chelsea chose to reveal the news at the end of a Clinton Foundation event on empowering girls in New York last night. Presumably, Hils and Bill already knew the happy news, as the former first lady joined her daughter on stage as she made the public announcement.

Revealing the happy news, Chelsea told the audience that she 'feels all the better whether it's a girl or a boy that she or he will grow up in a world with so many strong female leaders.'

'I just hope I will be as good a mom to my child and hopefully children as my mom was to me,' Chelsea said.

Hillary, who is considering another presidential campaign in 2016, said she was 'really excited' about becoming a grandmother.

'I want to see us keep moving and certainly for future generations as well so that maybe our grandchild will not have to be worried about some of the things that young women and young men are worried about today,' the secretary of state added. Meanwhile, Bill Clinton took to Twitter to express his joy at the news. 'Excited to add a new line to my Twitter bio...grandfather-to-be! @hillaryclinton and I are so happy for Chelsea and Marc,' he told his 1.78m followers.

It just goes to show that you can be one of the most powerful couples in the world, but when it comes to babies, everyone loses their cool.
