Now the voice behind the John Lewis advert - with the first original song featured on the advert, A Little Love - Celeste has really made her mark on the music industry this year. The recipient of the BBC Music’s Sound of 2020 award and the Brit Award Rising Star of 2020, she's an incredible talent meant for big things. Here’s everything you need to know about Grazia’s new musical girl crush...

How old is she and where is she from?

Celeste Epiphany Waite was born in Brighton on 5 May 1994, making her 26. Following on from her parents’ separation, the singer moved at the age of three to Dagenham. At the age of 5, Celeste moved to Saltdean where she enjoyed most of her childhood.

According to reports, Celeste started her musical career in London with just £100 and was fired from her previous job after skipping multiple shifts to make music. 'I’d rather call in sick and go to the studio than have the money for that month,’ she told the BBC recently.

What is she known for?

Celeste praises her grandfather for shaping her music taste as well as her distinctive sound. Adopting a modern take on timeless, emotionally driven soul and woozy jazz, the singer’s soft velvet-esque vocals ripple over the tracks, complimenting each woven story. The British-Jamaican singer-songwriter was influenced by the likes of Ray Charles, Janis Joplin and The Clash, emulating a similar raw emotive styling in her own music.

Since then, she broke through with Father’s Son, which explores her turbulent relationship with her late father. Other hits include Coco Blood, Stop This Flame, Strange and Lately. She went more mainstream thanks to her stirring performance at the BRITs, and most recently she released Hear My Voice in October of this year. Her self-titled debut album is forthcoming.

Does she have Instagram?

Of course. She has almost 90,000 followers to her name. She often posts about her new music and and showcases her cool, chic experimental style. We have a feeling she'll pick up a few thousand more before the end of the year.
